Developing the Whole Student: Our Discovery Curriculum
At KCC we believe education is about more than just academic success, it’s about preparing young people to thrive in life, work, and society. Our Discovery Curriculum is our approach to personal development, focusing on the character, skills, and mindset students need to become confident, responsible, and future-ready individuals.
It’s built around three key themes:
- Self to Others – Helping students understand themselves and build positive, respectful relationships with others.
- Here to the World – Encouraging young people to engage with both their local community and the wider world.
- Now to the Future – Inspiring students to make the most of the present and actively shape their future.
What We’re Already Doing – And Where You Can Help
We’ve got a growing and ambitious careers programme, and we’d love to do more
with your support. Here's how local employers and professionals are already getting
involved at KCC.
Discovery Week Careers Panel:
A live online panel in March, streamed into tutor rooms
across the school. We’re always looking for inspiring professionals to share insights and stories from their career journeys.
Discovery Week Mini Careers Fair:
An in-school event where students explore pathways with employers, apprenticeship providers, and colleges. A great chance to promote your industry and opportunities.
Discovery Assemblies:
Held every half term, these assemblies link to our school values
and feature guest speakers from local businesses, charities, and community groups. Got a story or message to share? We’d love to hear it.
Year 10 Discovery Challenge Week:
In July, we offer ‘sector experience’ sessions for students unable to secure external placements. Can you come in and give a hands-on intro to your industry?
Year 10 & Year 12 Work Experience:
We’re always looking for employers willing to host a student for one week at the end of the summer term. A small commitment that can make a big difference.
Year 12 Enrichment:
Our sixth formers dedicate one hour a week to real-world experience.Could you offer a regular volunteering or skills-based placement?
Year 12 Next Steps Day:
A one-day event focused on post-18 options. We welcome guest speakers from universities, businesses, and apprenticeship providers.
Sixth Form Tutorials:
Short, focused sessions that cover key life and career skills. We’re always on the lookout for guest speakers to host talks or Q&A sessions.

Year 12 Mock Interviews:
Each student takes part in a mock interview with a local professional. We aim to match them with someone from their sector of interest, can you help?

What We’d Love to Do – And How You Can Help
We’re ambitious about the future of our careers programme at Kingsbridge Community College and we want to grow it sustainably, creatively, and in partnership with our local community, which we know is filled with thriving businesses.
Our aim is simple:
To give every young person the skills, confidence, and real-world insight they need to take meaningful steps toward their future. But we also know that careers education works best when it’s rooted in the real world and that’s where you come in.

We’d love to hear from you if:
You’re passionate about your subject or industry and want to help bring it to life for students.

-
You could join a school trip or enrichment activity connected to your area of expertise.
-
You have ideas, time, resources, or even just enthusiasm, to contribute to student development.
-
You’d be happy to be contacted by our careers team when relevant opportunities come up.
-
We want to make it easier than ever for local people and businesses to get involved, whether it's a one-off talk or an ongoing relationship.
If this sounds like something you’d like to be part of, please fill in our quick expression of interest form above. Together, we can create opportunities that open doors for our young people and help shape the workforce of the future.
